Labour NEC backs Agency Bill

The Labour Party NEC has voted to support MP Andrew Miller's Private Member's Bill on Agency and Temporary Workers.

This is a key bill to improve the employment rights of some of the most vulnerable workers in the UK. Their weak position is also routinely used by employers to put downward pressure on terms and conditions for the rest of the workforce.

I can only assume that in this case the unions decided to vote in favour of our own policies, rather than following the common practice of voting against them in case winning a vote made life difficult for Gordon Brown.

Don't forget to lobby your MP in support of the bill. Building up the pressure will be vital - ministers talked out Paul Farrelly's previous bill.
